I'm a software engineer by profession, and have just left my first position after 2 years at Granular, an agriculture software company based in San Francisco. More on my next plans below. I worked there since the company was in a different business - soil nutrient measurements - and once the company transitioned to large farm management, my involvement was instrumental to helping make Granular a successful company. I made the decision to switch from Django and BackboneJS to Pyramid and AngularJS to serve our more complicated usecases, and to take advantage of SQLAlchemy. Not to brag, but my coworkers thanked me once the project was underway. Since I started working at Granular, I've expanded my knowledge of Python, learned Postgresql from scratch, improved my Javascript, and especially learned how to work in a growing professional team.
Now that I've left Granular, I'm fulfilling a goal I've had since college to travel around the world. I leave March 11th for Thailand, and up until September I'll have visited 20 countries over Asia, South America, and Europe. I will try and keep my blog updated on my journey as I go. My hobbies vary over time, with some previous ones including Chinese Yo-yo and Improv. I still revisit them from time to time. Today, I practice capoeira with Capoeira Angola Quintal in San Francisco, and plan on continuing in New York after I'm done traveling. I also study Japanese (basic conversational level) and German (beginner). I enjoy wildlife photography, despite having not invested in an expensive Canon. |
